Monrovia, Liberia – November 1, 2024: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has appointed Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu as the Executive Director of Liberia’s Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC), according to an announcement from the Executive Mansion on Friday.
The appointment, effective immediately, places Barbu at the helm of efforts to address and prosecute war and economic crimes, a key step in Liberia’s ongoing pursuit of justice.
Cllr. Barbu’s selection follows the recommendation of a presidential Search Committee, which recognized him as the ideal candidate based on his extensive qualifications and experience.
Known for his contributions to Liberia’s legal framework, Barbu has held significant roles, including Head of the Law Reform Commission and Dean of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia.
President Boakai expressed his confidence in Barbu, highlighting his dedication to justice and commitment to the state.
The President praised Barbu’s past service and voiced high expectations for his role in advancing justice and accountability through the WECC.
In the announcement, President Boakai urged Barbu to continue to demonstrate “diligence, commitment, integrity, professionalism, and loyalty” in his new role, signaling strong support for Barbu’s leadership as Liberia takes another step toward addressing the legacy of past crimes.
