Monrovia, Liberia – The Government of Liberia, through Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah, has clarified that former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor is receiving her entitled retirement benefits, countering recent public claims made by the former Vice President.

Minister Piah disclosed that Madam Taylor is currently benefiting from two pension schemes—one from the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) and another from the Civil Service Agency (CSA) under the old non-contributory pension system.

He emphasized that this arrangement is consistent with what is provided to all former presidents and vice presidents.

“If there are specific claims of benefits that she’s supposed to receive and is not receiving, as she claimed in her radio interview, we encourage her to make a formal claim, and the government is ready to look into that matter,” Piah said.

The Minister noted that while the government has a complete listing of individuals receiving such benefits, including Madam Taylor, details remain confidential due to privacy concerns.

Piah’s remarks follow a public statement by former Vice President Taylor on Spoon Talk, in which she lamented that she is being paid as a former Senator rather than a former Vice President. She also claimed she has not received any official vehicle or staffing support since leaving office, despite multiple written appeals to the current administration.

The Information Ministry is urging Madam Taylor to formally document any additional concerns so they can be addressed through the appropriate channels.
