Monrovia, Liberia – June 20, 2025 — The Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation in Liberia (CAMDL) has concluded a one-day Media and Digital Literacy Training for marketeers, including persons with disabilities in Monrovia aimed at enhancing digital resilience and protecting vulnerable communities from online fraud.
The training held at the Future Intellectual Discourse Center, adjacent to the Fiamah Market in Monrovia, brought together market sellers and persons with disabilities, equipping them with basic tools to identify false information and stay safe from online fraud and disinformation.
The Participants were taught practical skills such as evaluating the reliability of websites, identifying suspicious links, and tracing the original source of online images.
Speaking at the opening session, CAMDL’s Executive Director, Taweh Johnson, said the training is part of an ongoing initiative aimed at empowering local vendors with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the digital space safely. “Market sellers are increasingly exposed to online fraud and misinformation. This program is designed to equip them with the skills to protect themselves and their businesses,” Johnson said.
Furthermore, the initiative also emphasized inclusivity, with persons with disabilities actively participating in the training. CAMDL says this is part of its commitment to disability inclusion and digital accessibility in Liberia’s democratic and developmental processes.
For their parts, the participants of a recent Media and Digital Literacy training organized by Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation (CAMDL) have expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity, describing the exercise as an eye-opener that will help them verify information before trusting or spreading it.
“We market sellers are often exposed to misinformation because we never had access to this kind of knowledge. But from today onward, we are now aware of false rumors circulating in the community,” one participant remarked.
Disabled participants also expressed gratitude for being included in the training.
“At least now we feel like part of society. Thank you for thinking about us and including us in your activities,” they said, acknowledging CAMDL’s inclusive approach.
The event was held on Friday, June 20, 2025, and aligns with efforts to promote peace, governance, and responsible digital citizenship in Liberia.
