The European Union (EU), in partnership with the Government of Liberia, has successfully conducted a follow-up technical mission under the €42 million Light Up Southeast (LUSE) electricity project in Greenville, Sinoe County, aimed at improving reliable power supply in the southeastern region of the country. The technical mission took place from January 26 to 29, 2026, and was carried out through the National Authorizing Office (NAO) at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, in collaboration with the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) and other energy-related ministries and agencies.
The mission followed an earlier inspection during which several compliance and implementation concerns were identified at different LUSE-supported energy infrastructure sites in Greenville and surrounding areas. The purpose of the follow-up visit was to verify that those issues have been properly corrected and that construction works are now meeting required technical standards.
During the assessment, the team inspected newly completed installations, reviewed ongoing construction activities in line with contractors’ scopes of work, and evaluated the overall progress of the electricity infrastructure being implemented under the LUSE Program in Greenville, Sinoe County.Speaking to this reporter, the Deputy Minister for Programs at the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency said the project has reached an advanced stage and is progressing steadily toward completion.
He expressed optimism that by March this year, residents of Greenville will begin to experience stable and improved electricity supply through the Light Up Southeast Program.
The Deputy Minister also called on citizens to take ownership of the project by protecting the facilities and supporting the initiative, noting that community participation is key to ensuring the sustainability and long-term success of the program.
According to him, safeguarding the infrastructure will help preserve the gains made and ensure continuous access to electricity for communities in and around Greenville.
