Kakata, Margibi: The Center for Transperancy and Accountability in Liberia is stepping up efforts across the country to combat grassroot corruption, with specific focus on secondary schools as part of its Strengthening Political Governance and Accountability Project, supported by the Swedish Embassy.
The project is building the capacity of citizens across Liberia to effectively combat corruption and ensure transperant future for Liberians, especially for students and teachers.
As part of its decentralization process, the institution on Wednesday brought together several students, school authorities, including local education stakeholders as well as partners to a day-long Anti-corruption training in Margibi County.
Speaking to DN-News Liberia after the forum, Mr. Torwon F. Gensee, CENTAL’s Project Manager said, the initiative falls under the organization’s Strengthening Political Governance and Accountability in Liberia Project, with support from the Swedish Embassy through Irish Aid.
He noted that the session aimed to refresh participants understanding of the National Teacher Code of Conduct and the Education Reform Act of 2011. Gensee furthered that the training seeks to eradicate corruption in the education sector, especially at the local level and in the chatroom.
“We want to see a corruption free society that promotes transparency, accountability, and transparency, specifically in the education sector,” he stated.
Also remarking at the event, Margibi County Education Officer, Mr. Robert Zaza vowed to uphold ethical principles and upholding integrity across all schools in Margibi.
For their parts, some of the beneficiaries who form part of the project, expressed gratitude to the CENTAL and partners while committing to implementing the knowledge acquired.
“I will make sure and take this knowledge to my school and teach my students about Anti-Corruption activities and promote the spirit of accountability,” said one of the participating teachers.
The training is one of several trainings organized being conducted by CENTAL across Liberia aimed at fighting the menace.
