Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has confirmed that he is preparing to step down from his position following months of internal legislative disputes. In a statement released Tuesday, Koffa said he has begun wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders across the country to determine the path forward for his transition.

“I have become aware of statements circulating… regarding my position as Speaker,” Koffa stated. “While I am deeply touched by the outpouring of concern… I wish to address these matters with clarity and transparency.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, noting that the Supreme Court’s recent ruling has brought resolution to the impasse that has gripped the legislature in recent months. “The Supreme Court’s recent ruling has definitively resolved this matter, and I fully respect and uphold its decision,” he said.

In light of the ruling, Koffa said he is actively engaging with his colleagues in the legislature and other national actors as he considers the appropriate steps for his departure. “I commit to keeping the public informed as these discussions progress,” he said.

He also called on citizens to refrain from spreading unfounded claims, warning that such narratives could fuel unnecessary confusion and division.
