Monrovia, Liberia – The Rule of Law Caucus of the House of Representatives has reiterated that it will not recognize the leadership of the self-proclaimed majority bloc, branding their actions as illegal.
Instead, the caucus reaffirmed its support for Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, stating that all legislative activities must align with Article 33 of the Liberian Constitution.
Ina statement issued on Thursday at the Executive Pavilion after staging a walkout during the legislative session the group’s chairperson Representative Musa Bility criticized the lawmakers for ignoring a full-bench ruling of the Supreme Court, which was further clarified by the Justice in Chambers.
According to the caucus, the continued defiance of the court’s decision by these lawmakers undermines the authority of Liberia’s judicial system and could destabilize the country. They urged the disputed bloc to respect the ruling and work toward a lawful resolution.
The caucus further called on the Liberian Senate to cease all legislative business with the contested group, warning that engaging with an unconstitutional body would set a dangerous precedent.
In addition, the caucus urged international partners, including the African Union, the European Union, the United Nations, and the United States government, to refrain from recognizing or engaging with the disputed group.
Reaffirming their commitment to upholding democratic values, the caucus vowed to resist any attempts to weaken Liberia’s institutions and emphasized that the country’s stability depends on adherence to the rule of law.
