MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A medical report from ELWA Hospital has cast doubt on allegations that Chinese businessman Michael Shio poured hot oil on Momoh David.
The report, submitted to the Monrovia City Court on February 19, 2025, contradicts claims made against Shio and raises concerns about the accuracy of the accusations.
The medical findings indicate that David was admitted to ELWA Hospital on January 17, 2025, at 11:41 PM, four days after the alleged attack.

Medical evaluation determined that his injuries were caused by fire, not hot oil. The burns occurred around January 16, not January 13, as initially claimed. These findings challenge the narrative previously reported, which accused Shio of torturing David.
Despite these inconsistencies, Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) Director General Eugene Fahgon and LBS reported that Shio was responsible for David’s injuries. In a February 12, 2025, live broadcast, Fahgon suggested that David had been hospitalized since January 13, a claim that was not confirmed by David himself. Police records further contradict the allegations, showing that David was caught stealing at Shio’s construction site on January 13 at 9:00 AM and taken to Zone 3 Police Station by 10:30 AM, making it impossible for him to have been held captive for three days.

In a joint media interview on February 17, David admitted he was taken to the police station the same day.
Records show multiple instances of theft involving David. On January 10, 2025, he was caught stealing wires from a Lone Star Tower. On January 11, 2025, he was accused of theft near Sando Cooper’s residence.
On January 12, 2025, he allegedly attempted another theft, which led to mob violence. On January 13, 2025, he was caught stealing a solar panel at Shio’s construction site. Given this history, it remains unclear whether David’s injuries were linked to the alleged attack or another incident.
Reports suggest that a huge sum of money has been dished out to some individuals to fabricate allegations against Shio. Gao, previously fined for illegal mining, allegedly sought to discredit Shio due to conflicting business interests.
As investigations continue, questions remain about whether this case was a genuine criminal matter or an orchestrated effort to target a business rival.
