A family in the Warwein Community, District #8, is mourning the loss of their son who drowned in the Du River after reportedly being chased by members of the Joint Security force ahead of the planned July 17 protest.
Eyewitnesses say the victim, identified as 33-year-old Archie Boy Siabarcus , popularly known as “Meek Milly,” was among a group of suspected drug users allegedly targeted by security personnel who believed such individuals could be used as protestors.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, just behind the Slipway Police Depot along the Du River prior to the July 17 protest.
It is being speculated that, in preparation for the protest, the Joint Security launched a sweep targeting street dwellers and vulnerable youth seen as potential recruits for demonstrations.
According to reports, Siabarcus was pursued by some security officers and, in a desperate attempt to escape, jumped into the Du River , also known Mesurado River, near the Slipway Police Depot.
Eyewitnesses told this outlet that the officers turned back and left him in the water, struggling for his life.
“They left the boy in the water after he ran into the river when the security people were chasing him,” said one eyewitness.
Born on February 26, 1992, the deceased met his untimely death in what community members and relatives are attributing to an unnecessary and tragic security operation.
Speaking to this platform, the victim’s mother confirmed that the body was recovered after two days of intense search by family and community members.
She added that the matter was reported to the police but no action was taken.
The family proceeded to bury him on Thursday, July 17, 2025, following police advice.
