A group of Lofa County citizens based in Monrovia has called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to uphold the principles of unity, inclusion, and fairness in governance as his administration continues its drive toward national development.
In a statement issued over the weekend, the group—describing itself as a broad-based and development-oriented movement of concerned Lofa citizens—reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and the inclusive advancement of Liberia.
The citizens commended President Boakai and his administration for what they termed as “visible progress across critical sectors,” citing improvements in road infrastructure, agriculture, and essential public services.
“These accomplishments reflect a leadership committed to service delivery and national renewal, an agenda we wholeheartedly embrace and continue to support,” the statement read.
However, the group expressed concern over what they described as the lack of inclusion and recognition of loyal supporters from Lofa County, particularly pointing to the absence of Lorma representation in senior government appointments.
They specifically highlighted the case of Senator Jorgbor Hamadu Zargo, former Commissioner General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), who was suspended and later relieved of his position about a year ago.
The citizens hailed Senator Zargo as “a unifying figure and a loyal supporter” of President Boakai, noting his significant contributions to the Unity Party’s 2023 electoral victory—especially in Foya District, a key political stronghold.
“Senator Zargo was among the earliest and most loyal voices to rally behind President Boakai. His strategic influence and principled leadership were invaluable during the pivotal 2023 elections,” the statement continued.
They noted that despite his removal from office, Senator Zargo has maintained “a dignified silence in the face of injustice,” describing his restraint as a demonstration of maturity and patriotism.
“His loyalty was not transactional; it was rooted in conviction, vision, and a deep sense of responsibility to the country,” the statement emphasized.
The citizens warned that continued exclusion of loyalists and influential figures from key governance roles could undermine national unity and the spirit of collective ownership that propelled the Unity Party to power.
“Unity cannot be proclaimed while exclusion is practised. Exclusion breeds division; inclusion fosters peace,” the statement noted.
They appealed to President Boakai and the Unity Party leadership to prioritize reconciliation and inclusion as essential tools for sustaining public trust and fostering genuine national healing.
“Development is not only measured by roads, buildings, or statistics—it is built on people, relationships, and trust,” the group stressed.
Concluding their statement, the Lofa citizens reaffirmed their support for President Boakai’s vision for a united and prosperous Liberia but urged him to take deliberate actions that reflect fairness, justice, and inclusivity in governance.
“The future of Liberia will be shaped by how we treat those who sacrificed for its progress,” the statement said. “Recognizing Senator Zargo would not only be morally right, it would be politically wise and nationally unifying.”
