In a move aimed at bolstering transparency and accountability, the leadership of the Liberian Senate, under the direction of President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has hired a financial consultant to oversee the Senate’s financial management.

In a statement released by the Senate, it was announced that Mr. Eric Cassell has officially joined as the new Financial Advisor, effective October 2, 2024. This appointment reflects the Senate’s commitment to improving financial integrity within its operations.

“We are thrilled to announce that Mr. Eric Cassell has officially joined the Liberian Senate as our new Financial Advisor,” the Senate leadership said. “His services will be fully remunerated by the Office of the Pro Tempore, and we look forward to the positive impact and strategic guidance he will bring to our financial management practices.”

Mr. Cassell’s primary role will be to provide expert financial advice, address recommendations from Senate audits, and guide the implementation of necessary corrective actions. The position is considered vital for ensuring transparency and improving financial processes within the Senate.

The Financial Advisor will report directly to President Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence, offering regular updates on financial matters, including audit outcomes and recommended actions. The initial contract for the position is set for three months, with the potential for extension based on performance and the Senate’s ongoing needs.

This new appointment underscores the Senate’s dedication to reinforcing accountability in its financial operations and ensuring proper oversight in its budgeting and spending processes.
