The Legislature is returning to its 2nd Session today January 13, 2025 amid the chaos, hooliganism, and disaster that marred the 1st session of the House of Representatives.

Though the conflict did not extend to the Senate, its impact greatly affected the entire Legislature.

With uncertainty hanging over whether Speaker Koffa is going to resign despite his Bloc somersaulting on their previous decision not to sit under Koon’s gavel, there is no reliance that the conflict is over.

In a statement announcing the official return of the Liberian Senate, Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence says that this year’s opening ceremony is held in a sumber manner given the background of the recent events that affected the Legislature.

She added that notwithstanding the hurdles of the past months, she is confident that all members of the legislature return to the office invigorated to tackle the many issues facing the republic.

Unlike past ceremonies this year opening ceremony will have no guest and no lunch with the House of Representatives due to the fire incident.

The Senate, as expected, will march with the House of Representatives for the hosting of counties flags.

Each house, after the hosting of the flag, will assemble in their separate chambers for brief ceremonies.

During a brief ceremony, President Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence will deliver her opening statement that set the Senate’s agenda for the second session.

Pro Tempore Lawrence will also use the ceremony to outline accomplishments during the 1st session, to include legislations passed, confirmations officials of the executive branch of Government, and other instruments in committee room, as well as expectations during the 2nd session.

While Protemp Karngar Lawrence expresses confident that all members of the legislature will return to their office invigorated to tackle the many issues facing the republic, the old building remains shut down.
