Monrovia, Liberia – Amid the ongoing leadership crisis at the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, who was elected by the majority bloc of the House as Speaker, has gained significant regional recognition.

The Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has extended an official invitation to Koon to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect and Vice President-elect.

The ceremony is set to take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Accra, Ghana, as the country transitions to a new political administration.

In the invitation letter which is in the possession of DN News, Rt. Hon. Bagbin highlighted the importance of fostering cooperation among African parliaments and underscored Koon’s role in representing Liberia during this pivotal event.

“I write to invite you to the official swearing-in of the President-elect and Vice President-elect of the Republic of Ghana. Your presence would be a great honor and a symbol of unity, shared values, and commitment to democratic governance in our respective countries,” the letter read.

This invitation comes at a time when the leadership crisis in Liberia’s House of Representatives remains unresolved.

Embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa has refused to relinquish his position despite being removed by a majority of his colleagues.

The decision by the Ghanaian Parliament to recognize Koon as the Speaker of Liberia’s House of Representatives highlights his growing legitimacy on the regional stage.

In a gesture of solidarity, the Ghanaian Parliament has also offered to accommodate Koon and two accompanying officials during their stay in Ghana.
