Senator Dillon clarifies as he firmly Denies allegations that he plotted to block the confirmation of Youth and Sports Minister-Designate Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah
Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has firmly denied allegations that he plotted to block the confirmation of Youth and Sports Minister-Designate Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, calling the claims false and dangerous.
Speaking Monday during her Senate confirmation hearing, Dillon clarified that reports of a secret meeting involving him and other lawmakers were completely untrue.Dillon told the Senate that such narratives are misleading and risk creating division, while also threatening his personal safety by portraying him as hostile toward Nimba County.
To reinforce his position, he pointed to his public voting record, noting that he has consistently supported the confirmation of several officials from Nimba across different administrations.
He reminded the nominee that he previously voted to confirm her as Deputy Minister and has backed other Nimba citizens for senior government roles, including a vice-presidential candidate.
The senator warned that promoting tribal or county-based politics could undermine Liberia’s unity and urged those spreading the claims to desist.
In response, Kruah thanked the senators and highlighted her long-standing political relationship with Dillon, emphasizing that disagreements in governance are normal and not rooted in bad faith. She assured lawmakers that if confirmed, she would encourage constructive youth engagement and discourage disrespectful political activism.
