Several members of the Boakai administration, along with other stakeholders, have joined the chorus of criticism against Liberian rapper Christoph The Change.
The backlash comes after the artist performed a song promoting erotic content for minors under 18, which many have described as wholly inappropriate. Adding weight to the public outcry, Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation Boss Mo Ali and Youth Sports Minister-Designate Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, both high-ranking government officials, have taken to Facebook to publicly condemn the performance, joining a growing wave of criticism over the incident.
Christoph The Change was invited to perform at the St. Teresa Convent Catholic School during their gala day. In videos circulating online, students can be seen singing along and dancing to his song “Nut Bag Seed.”Since the performance, many parents, stakeholders, influencers, and bloggers have expressed serious concern over the choice of song.
Questions have been raised about why a song with explicit content would be performed at an event primarily attended by children, and why students were encouraged or allowed to sing and dance along word for word.
Liberians are particularly troubled because Catholic schools are generally considered highly disciplined and restrictive environments.
Many parents and members of the public are asking how such a song was permitted on a campus known for its strict moral and educational standards . They want government takes action..
