Monrovia, Liberia – In a heartfelt letter addressed to esteemed football stakeholders on Saturday, November 16, 2024, Christian Weah Sr., President of Stages Queen Football Club, announced his decision to formally withdraw from the collaboration of football stakeholders. This decision follows careful reflection and consultation, as Weah seeks a different path in his commitment to advancing football and improving the Liberia Football Association (LFA).
On June 6 of this year, Chris Geeplay Weah and Cassell Kuoh agreed to collaborate in the interest of football to unseat LFA President Mustapha Raji in the upcoming 2026 elective congress.
Also In September, stakeholders elected Cassell Kuoh as the preferred presidential nominee for the Collaborating Football Stakeholders (CFS), ahead of Chris Geeplay Weah.
Following that engagement, Weah emphasized the team’s commitment to achieving the necessary changes to transform Liberian football, stressing the importance of doing what is right and protecting Liberian football.
However, after months of speculation about a possible breakaway from the collaboration, Mr. Weah released a statement emphasizing the end of his involvement in the collaboration.
In his surprising communication, he reaffirmed his commitment to the growth, development, and transformation of Liberian football.
“I believe in the potential of the football ecosystem and its impact on society, and I am determined to channel my efforts toward achieving meaningful progress for the LFA and the broader football community,” he wrote.
In his letter, Weah expressed his intention to contest in the upcoming LFA elections, viewing it as an opportunity to bring forward a vision that reflects his unwavering belief in transparency, innovation, and progress for Liberian football. He conveyed his gratitude to the stakeholders for their support, encouragement, and shared commitment to their goals.
Weah also highlighted his plans to remain actively engaged with the media to communicate his aspirations for the future of football in Liberia. He believes that consistent and open dialogue is essential for building a shared vision for the success of the game.
As Weah steps away from the collaboration, he calls on all stakeholders to continue working toward a brighter future for football in Liberia, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for their support and understanding.
In response to the communication, Cassell Kuoh accepted the resignation of Mr. Christian Weah Sr.
In an official statement, Kuoh acknowledged Weah’s resignation and expressed regret over his decision to change course at such a crucial period. However, he emphasized the coalition’s understanding and support for Weah’s choice to redefine his path in his commitment to advancing football in Liberia.
“We cannot thank you enough for all of your contributions to the Collaboration of Football Stakeholders. As we strive to bring genuine and concrete reforms to the LFA, we are cognizant that we rely on different forms of support at various stages of this journey. So we owe you a debt of gratitude for all you’ve done for our collaboration,” Kuoh stated.
Kuoh also addressed the other stakeholders in the collaboration, urging them to remain steadfast in their commitment to change the Liberia Football Association (LFA) as a united front.
