Monrovia – The United States Embassy in Liberia has called on all political actors to uphold peace and unity amid ongoing tensions on Capitol Hill. Stressing the importance of compromise, the Embassy urged leaders to prioritize the nation’s welfare through open dialogue and respect for democratic principles.
In a statement released Thursday, the Embassy underscored Liberia’s expectation for its leaders to maintain democratic values, including fostering transparent political processes and peaceful debates.
“Violence is never the answer, and it serves no one’s interest,” the statement emphasized, adding that the legislature’s work must not be stalled due to political disagreements.
While acknowledging the inherent challenges of sustaining a democracy, the U.S. Embassy encouraged Liberia’s political leaders to address their differences constructively.
“We remain confident that whatever differences political parties and individual politicians may have, they can come together to address them through direct and peaceful engagement for the good of the nation,” the Embassy asserted.
As tensions persist, the call for compromise serves as a critical reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard Liberia’s democratic gains and ensure lasting peace for its citizens.
