Monrovia, Liberia — Mo Ali, Managing Director of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), has strongly refuted claims made by Bong County Representative Marvin Cole, accusing him of financially supporting efforts to remove Speaker Fonati Koffa.

In an official response, Ali addressed the allegations made during Cole’s appearance on Spoon Talk on October 17, 2024. “I feel compelled to address your unfounded accusation… that I am among those who provided financial support for efforts to remove Speaker Fonati Koffa,” Ali wrote in a formal statement, seeking to clarify his position.

Ali dismissed the claim as entirely baseless, pointing out that Rep. Cole had not specified whether the alleged funds were personal or sourced from LWSC. “If you are suggesting that the funds were personal, such a claim is baseless, as I have never possessed such an amount in my lifetime. If… you are implying that the money came from LWSC, then it is clear that you have no knowledge of the rigorous financial processes and controls in place at LWSC, making such misuse impossible,” Ali stated.

He went further, questioning why he would ever participate in such a plot, which he argued holds no personal benefit for him or his family.

“Even hypothetically assuming I had access to the alleged amount, why would I choose to invest it in a process that offers no personal or familial benefit?” Ali added.

Ali also challenged Rep. Cole to provide evidence supporting his accusations, emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior from lawmakers. “As a legislator, you have a duty to act with integrity and responsibility… Making serious allegations of this nature requires substantial evidence… I publicly challenge you to present evidence that I provided any financial support toward the alleged plot to remove Speaker Koffa,” he remarked.

Ali urged lawmakers to avoid reckless accusations that damage public trust. “Baseless accusations, such as the one you have made, undermine public trust in the legislature and do not serve the interests of the Liberian people,” Ali asserted.

Rep. Cole has yet to respond to Ali’s challenge, and the controversy adds to the ongoing political tensions surrounding leadership in the House of Representatives
