Monrovia, Liberia – Three Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary nominees appeared before the Liberian Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday as part of confirmation hearings for President Joseph Boakai’s diplomatic appointees. The hearings are aimed at strengthening Liberia’s diplomatic presence globally.

Edward Appleton, nominated as Ambassador to Japan, outlined plans to deepen Liberia’s relationship with Japan through enhanced diplomatic ties, trade and investment opportunities, and cultural exchange. 

He also indicated intentions to collaborate with Japan and other nations to address shared global challenges.

Ali Sylla, the Ambassador-designate for Senegal, focused on initiatives to enhance security cooperation, support infrastructure development, and promote economic growth. 

He also proposed ensuring Liberia’s active involvement in ECOWAS and African Union programs that align with the national development agenda, ARRESR, which emphasizes inclusive progress.

For his part, Joseph Johnson, nominated as Ambassador to Morocco, prioritized fast-tracking the implementation of agreements between Liberia and Morocco. 

He highlighted the importance of ensuring that all existing agreements with the Kingdom of Morocco are current and fully enforced for the benefit of both nations.

Meanwhile, the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee suspended the hearing due to a power outage at about 6:45 PM. 

Committee Chairman Senator Abraham Darius Dillon announced that a new date for the hearing would be communicated later.
