Ganta City, Nimba county —–Residents of Konahville in Ganta City, Nimba County, have raised substantial funds to open and pave key streets and corners within their community.
Speaking on a local radio station , Gompa Mayor Samuel Hardt announced that the two-day road project is a community-driven initiative in collaboration with local leaders.
According to Mayor Hardt, the first phase of the roadwork will begin at the Ganta checkpoint, extending into the community, while the second phase will cover the Door Cooper Avenue area.
He emphasized that the road project aims to provide residents with better road access, facilitating the transportation of materials and goods. Additionally, the initiative is expected to address long-standing road connectivity issues within the community.
The mayor disclosed that the Konahville community had raised over $2,000 to rent road-building equipment and purchase essential materials. He also revealed that a broader road pavement campaign across Ganta communities is set to begin next month, but this particular project stands out as a grassroots effort led entirely by the residents.
Mayor Hardt encouraged other communities to follow Konahville’s example by prioritizing development projects that contribute to the growth of the city.
For his part, the Chairman of Konahville, Peter Karzrawoah, has lauded the residents of the community for their collective effort in advancing the development of local roads. He also expressed gratitude to the Mayor’s Office for complementing the residents’ initiative, which has significantly boosted the project.
Speaking to the media, Chairman Karzrawoah highlighted the challenges faced by the community, noting that promises made by District #1 Representative Samuel Brown Sr. to improve the roads have not been fulfilled. Despite numerous attempts to seek the lawmaker’s intervention, no progress has been made. As a result, the residents took it upon themselves to embark on the project.
Karzrawoah also acknowledged the support provided by the proprietor of the Exceptional Integrity Development Academy (EXIDA), who played a great role in turning the community’s vision into reality.
“We are grateful to the school administration for their overwhelming support. They are the driving force behind this project, and their presence in our community is truly a blessing,” he emphasized.
The roadwork is being carried out in partnership with the Gompa City Corporation, Liberia Land Authority, and the Ministry of Public Works’ local offices, and is set to begin today, November 20, 2024.
