The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) says the failure of the ruling Unity Party to take drastic actions against UP lawmakers opting to oust House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa demonstrates the Party’s involvement in the Speaker’s coup.
Currently, 43 out of 73 Lawmakers including the CDC Deputy Speaker are camping at a local Hotel in Paynesville pushing to remove the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
11 of the Lawmakers wanting to remove the Speaker are from the Opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). The CDC has since suspended all Lawmakers involved including Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah.
Addressing a news conference Thursday in Monrovia’s suburb, Emmanuel Swen a steward of the CDC accused the Unity Party of masterminding the Speaker’s removal due to its (UP) refusal to take actions against all UP Lawmakers involved in the Speaker’s ousting.
“ You can see glaringly how Unity Party is removing our Speaker because they have refused to take action against their Lawmakers involved in the removal efforts of the Speaker”. Swen stated.
He pointed out that the Ruling Party’s refusal to institute actions against their renegade Lawmakers ousting the Speaker undermines the government and Liberia’s peace and stability.
Swen made the assertions during the celebration of the CDC “Martyr’s Day” in District # 15, Logan Town.
According to the opposition Party’s Secretary General Jefferson Koijee who also attended the event, the day was set aside to celebrate partisans who lost their lives in a bloody clash between State Security and CDCIANS on November 7, 2011, at CDC Headquarters.
