Monrovia- Liberia Football Association President, Mustapha I Raji, on Saturday, October 12, 2024 awarded a full five -year scholarship to twelve students of the Sis Iye School System in Barnersville Community.
The LFA president told the school to select twelve students who are involved with football or sports to benefit from five year scholarship.
He challenged the recipients to avoid pleasantries and take their lessons seriously if they must have a better future and contribute to the development of the country.
He said though he does not hold any personal relationship with parents of those who will receive the scholarships, the beneficiaries should focus on their studies while playing sports.
In addition to the scholarship, Raji pledged to give the school two new computers and a wholesome amount of LD$ 300,000 this Wednesday.
Serving as the school 8th
commencement speaker, Raji stressed that the Ministry of Education needs to provide teachers and mentors with powerful tools to enhance the improvement of students.
“If we are to move forward as a nation, the Ministry of Education should begin providing equip teachers and mentors for our students” he said.
The LFA boss also told the graduates to be good “ambassadors” for their alma mater. He pleaded with them to keep
pursuing their studies by extending at university level.
Furthermore, Raji encouraged parents of the students to continually cooperate with school’s administration as the amount they pay for their children is far less than the level of education the kids are receiving from the school.
Meanwhile, speaking with journalists after the program, Mary Johnson from the 9th grade class who alleged to be a kickball player, praised Raji for the school.
According to her, only a man with good heart can provide such a scholarship at the time that the country’s economic is rough.
” Thank you so much uncle for the scholarship because some of us our parents are struggling this year with the school fees business due to the lack of job and money” she explained.
