SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba County — Nimba County Superintendent Madam Kou Meapeh Gono has dedicated a newly constructed Early Childhood Center in Sanniquellie, following the reconstruction of the facility after it was severely damaged by a storm.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nimba County Education Officer Francis Leagay said the project demonstrates the county administration’s commitment to education and community development.
Leagay said the storm-damaged school had created serious challenges for students, teachers, parents, and the community. He praised the county administration for not only reconstructing the facility but also providing desks, chairs, uniforms, PE suits, school bags, bowls, computers, and other educational materials.
For her part, Superintendent Gono thanked the Nimba Legislative Caucus and County Council for supporting the project. She explained that the administration initially intended to prioritize another community project but redirected resources to the school because of the urgent need to provide a safe learning environment for children.
Gono said the county has also constructed an outdoor area for children to eat and play during rainy weather and provided furniture, uniforms, computers, printers, and other equipment. She noted that the growing enrollment has created a need for further expansion of the facility.
“We still have a lot more to do, but this is just the beginning,” Gono said.
Also speaking, Nimba County District #2 Representative Nya Flomo Sr. commended the county administration for investing public resources in visible development projects.
He said the project is in line with the government’s focus on foundational education and noted that plans are underway for additional modern early learning centers across Liberia, including one expected to benefit District #2.
Flomo urged citizens to support leaders who prioritize education and ensure that public resources are used for projects that directly benefit communities.
The dedication ceremony held yesterday was attended by county officials, lawmaker, education authorities, community leaders, parents, teachers, and residents.
