Monrovia, April 14, 2025 – The office of former President George M. Weah has described a recent apology from the Liberia National Police (LNP) as “unsolicited and unwarranted.”
The statement follows an LNP press release issued earlier on Monday, apologizing for what it called the “unprofessional conduct” of some officers during a due-payment rally held by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
However, the Office of the Former President said no complaint had been filed regarding the conduct of security officers at the event. It questioned the motive behind the LNP’s apology, suggesting it could be politically driven.
“All officers assigned to former President Weah behaved professionally throughout the peaceful and well-organized rally,” the statement said, adding that the LNP should have verified any concerns directly instead of relying on social media and informal reports.
The former president’s office further called on the police and other security institutions to remain professional and refrain from political interference.
It emphasized that all armed officers in Weah’s security detail are officially designated by the state.
