Former Liberian President George Weah has accused President Joseph Boakai’s administration of worsening the living conditions of Liberians.
Speaking on April 12, 2025, at a Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) event for the payment of party dues, Weah said the Unity Party-led government came to power through deception and is now failing the country.
“We have seen a government that rode to power on the back of false promises and deceptive slogans—talking about ‘rescue’ while sinking the country deeper into poverty, fear, and hopelessness,” Weah said.
He also addressed issues within the CDC, blaming the party’s 2023 electoral defeat on disunity and a lack of sincerity among some members.
“Our defeat was not just because of the opposition. It was because of ourselves—our lack of unity, our betrayal of party principles,” he said.
Weah encouraged partisans to remain committed and called for the reorganization of the CDC.
The former president’s remarks were received with loud cheers as supporters chanted slogans calling for his return in 2029.
