Gbarnga: Cllr. John Stones McGill, the President-Elect of the Bong County Bar Association has vowed to negotiate with the Liberia National Bar Association in formulating a law that would compel Lawyers to attend Courts opening.
According to Cllr McGill, the absence of some lawyers during Courts opening is one of the major challenges hindering the Bong County Bar Association.
“We are strategizing to negotiate with the Liberia National Bar Association to have a law that will compel lawyers to go to Courts Opening”
He then pledged, his leadership will lobby with the Liberia National Bar Association to formulate a law that would force lawyers to attend courts opening or face legal consequences.
Cllr McGill underscored the lack of legal provision prohibiting the act as the primary cause of some lawyers’ habitual boycotting of courts opening.
Meanwhile, Cllr. McGill has vowed that upon his induction as President of the Bong County Bar Association, he will work in collaboration with his colleagues to fast-track completion works on the bar’s headquarters construction.
He narrated that members of the Bar faces huge financial constraints in accessing lodging facilities during their time of duty in the County.
Cllr. McGill furthered that when the Bar headquarters is completed, it will serve as a multi-purpose complex for lawyers including the availability of offices, lodging facilities, among others.
“We intend to complete the ongoing construction of our multi-complex headquarters. We are all lawyers of Bong County but most of us reside in Monrovia. When we complete this project, it will stop us from spending too much to hotels and guest houses” Cllr. McGill averred.
The Bong County Bar Association President-elect also pledged to lobby with sons and daughters of Bong County who are members of other Counties’ bar and unite them with their County of Origin; Bong.
Cllr. McGill made these statements after being elected by his colleagues on Monday at the end of the November A.D. 2024 term of Court opening of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga.
