Bong County Senator Prince K. Moye has emphatically denied any involvement in the removal of Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Fonita Koffa.
Responding to allegations during a press conference on Monday, October 21, 2024, Senator Moye, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget Committee, expressed disappointment that members of the House of Representatives would accuse him of sponsoring Speaker Koffa’s removal because he and others opposed a proposed audit of the House.
Senator Moye stated that the government he helped bring into power was elected on the principles of transparency and accountability, making it illogical for him to resist or oppose any audit.
The Senate Press Release further noted that the Bong County Lawmaker urged the leadership of the House to have the courage to initiate an audit of both past and present House leaders.
Moye highlighted his time as Chairman of the House’s Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget Committee, serving for one year and three months, during which he said the House operated in line with what was appropriated. He added, “Go back and audit the House, and you will find out who the real culprits are—don’t come here shedding tears.”
Moreover, Senator Moye revealed that during his tenure as Deputy Speaker for three years, his budget never surpassed one million U.S. dollars. However, he noted that after his election to the Senate in 2021, Deputy Speaker J. Fonita Koffa’s budget began to exceed one million dollars, reaching over four million after a one-million-dollar allocation in 2023.
Moye pointed out that such discrepancies should be the basis for an audit of the House.
“We have taken the step in the Senate to conduct an audit, so you should do the same instead of shifting blame. Why has the GAC not conducted an audit since February? I believe someone noticed their 2023 physical outturn in the budget showing US$4 million, and they panicked because there’s no valid explanation for how that money passed through their account,” Moye questioned.
In conclusion, Senator Moye urged those accusing him to focus on the substantive issues raised in their colleagues’ resolution and address the concerns rather than placing blame on others.
