Monrovia: The House of Representatives of Liberia has forwarded a communication seeking the expulsion of Montserrado County District 10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah to its Committee on Rules, Order and Administration for in-depth review.
The committee, chaired by Montserrado County District 2 Representative James Kolleh, is expected to examine the matter and report its findings and recommendations to Plenary before the conclusion of the ongoing 10-day special sitting.
The move marks a significant escalation in the controversy surrounding Representative Kolubah, whose recent remarks on the Liberia–Guinea border dispute have sparked widespread backlash within both legislative and security circles.
At the center of the issue is a statement made by Kolubah regarding the disputed Sorlumba checkpoint, where he suggested that the land in question belongs to Guinea and urged that Guinean authorities should “take their land.” The comments have since drawn sharp criticism, with many describing them as undermining Liberia’s territorial integrity.
In a formal communication to Plenary, Montserrado County District 3 Representative Sumo Mulbah characterized Kolubah’s statement as a direct threat to national security and an attack on Liberia’s sovereignty. Mulbah’s communication laid the groundwork for the current expulsion push, urging the House to take decisive action.
Adding further weight to the matter, Gregory Coleman, Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, also raised concerns in a separate communication. The police chief echoed fears that such statements could inflame tensions and undermine national stability, particularly amid the sensitive border situation.
The Committee on Rules, Order and Administration is now tasked with reviewing the allegations, assessing their implications under House rules and the Liberian Constitution, and advising Plenary on the appropriate course of action. Possible outcomes could range from dismissal of the complaint to disciplinary measures, including suspension or expulsion, depending on the committee’s findings.
As the special sitting progresses, attention remains fixed on the committee’s deliberations, which could have far-reaching implications not only for Representative Kolubah’s political future but also for legislative standards and national cohesion during a period of heightened territorial sensitivity.
