Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Justice, through the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) and the Liberia National Police (LNP), has issued a stern warning against the irregular distribution and sale of petroleum products in mayonnaise jars and jerry cans along streets, highways, and within communities.
According to the Ministry, this practice violates Liberia’s Public Safety Law and poses significant threats to human lives and property. The Ministry emphasized that flammable products such as gasoline and diesel must only be sold and handled in compliance with proper safety standards.
In a statement signed by Colonel G. W. Barvoul, Director of the LNFS, and approved by Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, the Ministry instructed all individuals and filling stations engaging in such activities to cease immediately.
It also directed all tankers transporting petroleum products to deliver them exclusively to government-approved filling stations.
As part of the enforcement measures, the Ministry announced a complete ban on the sale of flammable substances in mayonnaise jars and jerry cans, effective January 15, 2025. Violators, including individuals and filling stations, will face arrest, and their products will be confiscated.
The government urges the public to comply with the directive to ensure public safety and prevent potential disasters caused by the improper handling of flammable substances.
