Monrovia, Liberia – Liberian international musician Johnathan Lee, popularly known as Jzyno, has shared a powerful message urging citizens and political actors to prioritize national interest over party politics.
In a thought-provoking statement posted on his social media platforms, Jzyno warned that a failure to put country first would ensure it remains “always last.” The artist criticized the cycle of political rivalry that often undermines national development, saying that power greed and relentless opposition tactics are keeping many countries, including Liberia, from progressing.
“One major reason why most countries are backward today is because of power greed,” Jzyno stated. “Opposition parties be fighting hard and running propaganda just for the ruling party to fail. Whether the ruling party is doing an excellent job or not, the opposition never relent.”
According to him, this pattern of political sabotage — where each party seeks power by any means necessary rather than contributing positively to governance — only leads to national instability and hardship.
“When the ruling party fails, the opposition enters. And when they take power, there is another opposition party to contend with,” he said. “Funny but sad enough, it goes on and on.”
The musician highlighted the painful consequences of this endless power struggle, which leaves ordinary citizens to suffer the effects: poor infrastructure, unreliable electricity, bad roads, a crumbling education and health care system, food shortages, and a depreciating currency.
Jzyno’s message ended with a heartfelt plea: “Let’s put our country first.”
Known for his music that blends Afrobeat with deep social commentary, Jzyno is using his platform to inspire not just entertainment, but critical thought and national consciousness. His message is already gaining traction among young Liberians, many of whom are expressing agreement and calling for a new era of patriotism and cooperation in governance.
As Liberia navigates its political journey, voices like Jzyno’s are reminding citizens and leaders alike that unity and national interest must rise above partisan battles for the country to truly move forward.
