Students from the Refresher Class of the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute (FSI) today embarked on a tour of the Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI) in Marshall, Margibi County, as part of their graduation requirements. The visit aimed to enhance their understanding of Liberia’s maritime operations and provide firsthand exposure to key national institutions.
Atty. Anthony T. Twe, Director of Domestic Vessel Registry at the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Authority’s mandates, focusing on Liberia’s roles in flag, coastal, and port state activities. The presentation highlighted Liberia’s global maritime influence and underscored the critical role of maritime operations in the nation’s economic framework.
Bernard Waritay, President of the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute Refresher Class, lauded the Liberia Maritime Authority, particularly Commissioner Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., for fully sponsoring the tour and for the warm reception extended to the students. “The visit was highly educative, rewarding, and will prove beneficial for the future of Liberia’s emerging diplomats,” Waritay said.
Coordinator of the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute, Mr. Seton P. Loglar, emphasized the importance of such collaborations between the institute and LiMA. “This tour not only provided historical insights but also showcased future investment opportunities in the maritime sector,” he stated, advocating for deeper ties between the two institutions to broaden the knowledge base of aspiring diplomats.
Founded in 1951 during the administration of President William V. S. Tubman, the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute trains young Liberians for diplomatic service. Since its inception, the institute has prepared generations of diplomats who serve at Liberia’s missions abroad.
As Liberia’s maritime sector continues to play a pivotal role in global trade and national development, the visit underscores the critical connection between diplomacy and maritime governance.
