Monrovia: On September 25, 2025, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) seized 480 packs of Tramadol hidden in forty cartons aboard a petroleum tanker at the Tieni checkpoint in Grand Cape Mount County. The tanker, reportedly linked to Kailondo Petroleum Company, was impounded as the LDEA launched an investigation into the incident.

According to an LDEA release, the agency has formally invited businessman Cllr. George Kailondo, the owner of the truck, to appear at its headquarters on Monday for questioning.
Kailondo confirmed ownership of the truck but denied any connection to the drugs or knowledge of how the tanker left his company’s parking area.

“My trucks should have been parked at Johnsonville. How it ended up there is a mystery to me,” Kailondo said.
He explained that he dismissed all his drivers over two months ago and that all eight trucks had been parked at the company’s Johnsonville yard since then. Kailondo alleged that one of his distributors released the truck without his consent to deliver petroleum products to Bomi County.
According to him, the tanker was carrying 4,000 gallons of gasoline purchased from Petro-Trade by an agent whose identity he chose not to disclose.
Kailondo emphasized that he has no link to the drug bust and questioned the need to appear before the LDEA.
“Why would I have to face them? It is not my property being used. I know nothing about it,” he insisted.
