A day after multiple media reports suggested plans to license religious institutions, the Government of Liberia has denied the claim.
The government clarified that it has no intention of imposing taxes on churches and mosques operating in the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel O. Sando, described the claims as “entirely false and without merit,” warning the public against believing what he termed as “FAKE news and malicious fabrications.”
“We are compelled to clarify that the reports about plans by the Government of Liberia to impose taxes on churches and mosques are entirely false. These reports are maliciously crafted to create unnecessary confusion and mislead the public,” Minister Sando stated.
He urged citizens to dismiss the rumors and instead remain focused on the government’s ongoing developmental initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Liberians across the country.
