[Monrovia, Liberia] October 19, 2024: Montserrado County District 1 Representative Rugie Yartu Barry, has refuted allegations that she received Cash to remove the House Speaker.
Representative Barry who withdrew her signature immediately following the revelations of Lawmakers signing Resolution for 15 thousand to remove the Speaker, emphasized that her decision to sign the resolution was free from any financial influence.
She clarified that her involvement was focused solely on pressing policy and procedural issues within the Legislature, including the removal of district development funds from the budget and amendments to the House rules. “Holding meetings to discuss issues that affect legislative workings and signing to communicate these issues are normal business at the legislature,” she stated.
However, She also expressed concern over reports suggesting that other members of the House may have received money in exchange for their signatures supporting the Speaker’s removal.
“For the record, I, Rugie Yatu Barry, did not receive any money to do such a thing as removing Hon. Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa,” she asserted, underscoring her commitment to integrity and her refusal to allow her character to be compromised by such allegations.
