Monrovia, Liberia – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Col. Gregory Coleman, has assured the public that the ongoing investigation into the alleged arson attack on the Capitol Building is impartial and free of any political interference.
Speaking to members of the press on Monday, January 27, 2025, Col. Coleman confirmed The police have written to the House of Representatives, inviting seven members of the body for questioning as persons of interest.
“There is no evidence linking this investigation to any political party. Those involved acted independently, and the evidence will determine the outcome,” Col. Coleman said.
He clarified that being named a person of interest does not imply guilt, but stressed that anyone found connected to the crime will face charges.
The police chief criticized what he described as a “disinformation campaign” aimed at undermining the investigation. “We know who is behind these efforts, but they will not succeed. The investigation will continue, and no one will be above the law,” he stated.
Col. Coleman emphasized the importance of accountability, stating that Liberia’s fragile democracy cannot be used as an excuse to avoid justice.
He reaffirmed that the investigation is being guided by evidence alone and urged all parties to respect the process.
The Inspector General concluded by reiterating the police’s commitment to a thorough and impartial investigation, ensuring that justice is served.
Two suspects have been arrested and forwarded to court in connection to the attack.
