Monrovia, Liberia – January 16, 2025A group of grieving young friends of the late Isaiah B. Williams has petitioned the Ministry of Health to launch a thorough investigation into his death, which they allege was caused by medical negligence at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital.
Isaiah B. Williams, born on March 31, 2004, died on January 3, 2025, after what his friends described as “wrong medical procedures” during an operation for hydroseed. According to the petitioners, Isaiah was admitted in stable condition but tragically lost his life due to a missed critical injection necessary for the procedure.
The group, led by Ben C. Johnson, submitted their petition to Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, outlining four key demands:
- Thorough Investigation: A detailed review of the events that led to Isaiah’s untimely death.
- Accountability: Disciplinary measures against the medical professionals who allegedly failed to follow proper protocols.
- Improved Standards: Implementation of stricter healthcare guidelines to ensure patient safety.
- Family Support: Establishing initiatives to provide emotional and financial assistance to families affected by medical negligence.
In their petition, the friends emphasized that Isaiah’s mother had taken him to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital believing it was the best option to avoid seeking medical care abroad. However, the alleged failure of the hospital’s medical staff to administer a critical pre-surgery injection has left the family and friends devastated.
“This is about justice for Isaiah and ensuring no other family goes through this pain,” said Johnson. “We cannot stand by while negligence continues to claim innocent lives.”
The group also highlighted the broader implications of their demands, urging the Ministry of Health to take immediate action to rebuild public confidence in Liberia’s healthcare system.
The Ministry of Health has been given a 7 day ultimatum to respond to the petition as the Minister is currently out of the Country.
Meanwhile, DN News has gathered from family sources that the family of the late Isaiah B. Williams will be at the Liberia Medical and Dental Council on Friday January 17, 2025 for the second hearing.
The St. Joseph Catholic Hospital is yet to respond to this development since it was first reported over two weeks ago
