In a dramatic scene at the Golden Key Hotel, frustrated members of the Unity Party’s auxiliaries staged a protest, blocking party executives and lawmakers from leaving the premises.
The officials were at the Hotel as part of a two day National Executive Committee meeting.
The group, mostly comprised of youth expressing dissatisfaction over being jobless for over 11 months since the party took power, demanded immediate employment opportunities.
The protest turned chaotic when some angry auxiliaries attacked Nyante Togba, a journalist from OK FM, who was covering the unfolding incident.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but Journalists are mostly attacked at such political happenings due to insecurity from the protesters fearing reprisal from their Bosses.
The act demonstrated by the frustrated UP Supporters and auxiliaries by attacking a Journalist highlights the level of frustration amongst them.
Montserrado County District #11 Representative Richard Koon, also an executive of UP acknowledged the grievances of the auxiliaries, stating that their demands were valid.
He assured them that the party leadership is working on plans to provide job opportunities for its members in the near future.
After hours of high tension and demands for relevance, the disgruntled auxiliaries were eventually seen entering the hotel for a meeting with party officials.
It is expected that the dialogue would lead to a resolution of the ongoing concerns among the Unity Party’s grassroots supporters.
