Gbarnga- The Bong County Council on Monday, November 11, 2024, approved the county administration’s budget for fiscal year 2024, with a reduction to US$682,900.
The county administration initially presented a draft budget of US$1,488,669.07, but the council approved a total of US$763,500.
The reduction in the budget resulted from the exclusion of US$470,000 for electoral district projects, US$100,000 for arrears, US$100,000 for the Bong County Sports Steering Committee, and US$10,000 for the County Health Team maternity ward, among others.
“These budget lines need further clarification from the county administration and benefiting agencies before being approved,” stated Aaron Sackie Fehnlah, the County Council Chairman.
Meanwhile, all of the county administration’s priorities, including administrative costs, the purchase of vehicles, renovation of the Superintendent’s compound, and fencing of the administration building, were approved with some reductions. US$300,000 was approved for the renovation of the Superintendent’s compound, US$30,000 for the purchase of furniture for the Superintendent’s compound, and US$75,000 for the purchase of three vehicles for the county administration, compared to the initially proposed US$100,000 for four vehicles.
Additionally, the council allocated US$25,000 for the purchase of fuel oil and maintenance of yellow machines for road rehabilitation in Gbarnga.
This budget line saw a reduction of US$50,000, as US$75,000 was initially proposed for the procurement of yellow machines.
