Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah is reportedly on the verge of losing his position over his ambitions to assume the role of Speaker, sparking a major rift amongst members of the anti Koffa Bloc.
Sources within the bloc informed DN News that there is significant opposition to Fallah’s insistence on replacing the current Speaker, J. Fonati Koffa. Instead, many lawmakers in the bloc are rallying for a Speaker from the Unity Party.
According to sources close to the anti-Koffa coalition, the original agreement among legislators was for Fallah to remain Deputy Speaker while the Unity Party, as the ruling Party, would put forward a Speaker.
However, Fallah allegedly disrupted this plan, stating that his financial contributions entitle him to the Speaker’s position.
This claim has fueled frustration within the majority bloc, leading to increased tension and discussions of restructuring the House’s leadership.
In response, the anti-Koffa bloc has reportedly reached a consensus to keep Speaker Koffa in place and instead remove Fallah from his Deputy Speaker position.
They intend to offer this role to a Unity Party lawmaker, seeking a balanced leadership structure that reflects a power-sharing agreement.
Meanwhile, Koffa’s supporters are meeting in Gbarnga City, reportedly planning strategies to secure their current leadership positions ahead of Tuesday’s legislative session.
