Monrovia, Liberia ( October 14,2024)– The Liberia National Police (LNP) has taken decisive action against misconduct within its ranks, dismissing one officer and interdicting two others following a serious incident involving the unlawful arrest and intimidation of two Vietnamese nationals.
Addressing a press briefing at LNP Headquarters, Inspector General (IGP) Col. Gregory Coleman announced the immediate dismissal of Patrolman Sansee C. Massaquoi and the interdiction of Patrolman Augustine Ben and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sam Gballah, also known by the code name R2.
Col. Coleman stated that the actions were prompted by events that unfolded on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Luxury Hotel in Thinkers Village.
According to IGP Coleman, Patrolmen Ben and Massaquoi unlawfully entered the hotel room of Mr. Nguyah Dean and Mr. Levan Tu, confiscating $24,000 in cash and taking the businessmen to LNP Headquarters without probable cause.
Upon arrival, the two were subjected to intimidation and threats by ACP Gballah, who allegedly sought to take mugshots.
IGP Coleman highlighted that Patrolman Massaquoi had previously been under indefinite suspension since 2018 for theft of property, emphasizing the LNP’s commitment to addressing and preventing such misconduct.
“The Liberia National Police will not tolerate any form of criminality by any officer under my command,” said IGP Coleman. “We are committed to upholding the integrity of our force and ensuring that all officers act within the law.” Coleman asserted.
The cases of ACP Gballah and Patrolman Ben have been forwarded to the Professional Standards Division (PSD) for thorough investigation as stipulated by the Police Act. The Liberia National Police urges the public to remain vigilant and report any incidents of misconduct, reaffirming its dedication to transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
