GANTA, Nimba County — Liberia is stepping up efforts to maintain its Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) eligibility and advance toward compact development, as government officials and sector stakeholders meet in Ganta City to assess performance gaps, validate policy priorities, and develop strategies to sustain the country’s progress under the MCC scorecard.
The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, in collaboration with the MCC Eligibility Office, convened a framework validation retreat from October 21 to 24, 2026, to strengthen Liberia’s progress toward MCC compact eligibility.
The retreat is being held under the theme, “Sustaining the Momentum: Validating Liberia’s Pathway from Scorecard to MCC Compact Eligibility.”
Speaking during the opening session, Atty. Sondah Geepea Wilson, Team Lead of the MCC Eligibility Office at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, emphasized the importance of collaboration, stakeholder participation, and constructive dialogue in advancing Liberia’s eligibility process.
Wilson encouraged participants to share ideas, identify performance gaps, and make practical recommendations to help Liberia maintain its progress under the MCC eligibility framework.
Meanwhile, Joe Sallie, Assistant Program Management Officer at the MCC Eligibility Office, warned that Liberia must protect its eligibility status to avoid setbacks that could delay compact development and implementation.
He stressed that maintaining eligibility requires collective responsibility across government institutions and other sectors, noting that weaknesses in key performance indicators could threaten the country’s progress.
Sallie also emphasized that the MCC framework extends beyond financial assistance, highlighting economic freedom, investment in people, and good governance as essential pillars of national development.
He urged government institutions and other stakeholders to take the eligibility indicators seriously, noting that improvements in these areas would benefit Liberia beyond the potential financial support of an MCC compact.
The retreat brings together stakeholders from various sectors to assess Liberia’s performance, validate policy priorities, and identify practical measures to sustain progress toward MCC compact eligibility.
