The African Youth Fellowship (AYF) Liberia has strongly condemned the recent border incident involving alleged Guinean soldiers crossing into Liberian territory in Lofa County, describing the situation as a serious concern that could threaten peace and stability along the border.
In a press release issued on March 10, 2026, in Monrovia, the youth-led organization expressed deep concern over reports that soldiers from Guinea allegedly crossed into Liberia near communities in Foya District, where they reportedly confronted civilians and workers operating in the area.
According to AYF Liberia, such actions undermine Liberia’s territorial sovereignty and could escalate tensions between the two neighboring countries if not addressed through diplomatic means. The organization emphasized that Liberia and Guinea share longstanding historical, cultural, and economic ties, making it important for both governments to handle the situation responsibly.
“As a youth-led organization committed to promoting sustainable peace, conflict prevention, and regional cooperation, we strongly condemn any action that threatens the peace, safety, and stability of communities living along the border,” the statement noted.
AYF Liberia warned that incidents of this nature have the potential to heighten tensions between the two countries, especially among residents of border communities who rely heavily on peaceful cross-border relations for trade and daily livelihoods.
The organization also highlighted the importance of the regional cooperation framework established through the Mano River Union, which has for decades served as a platform for Liberia, Guinea, and other member states to strengthen peace, security, and development across the region.
AYF Liberia called on the Government of Guinea to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation into the reported actions of its soldiers and ensure full respect for Liberia’s internationally recognized territorial boundaries.
At the same time, the organization urged the Government of Liberia to continue engaging Guinean authorities through diplomatic channels in order to ensure that the matter is peacefully resolved and that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
The group stressed that residents of border communities—particularly those in Foya District—should not be subjected to fear, intimidation, or insecurity as a result of territorial tensions.
AYF Liberia concluded by calling on both governments and regional actors to remain committed to dialogue, diplomacy, and cooperation in addressing the issue while preserving the longstanding relationship between Liberia and Guinea.
